Christmas

Ok. Christmas has come and gone and a lot of things happened since the last post. A lot. First, all the furniture arrived. It was nice not to have to sit and sleep on an air mattress. We got all the furniture from NY and we added a few beauties from LA. So we're pretty full up now. The place is looking sharp. We hosted festivus for the rest of us (erin's family) on the Sunday before Christmas. We also hosted a few others on other days including Iain and Maggie in from Toronto.
Finished working for RF on the following Monday. I'll start the new one in January.

On the 23rd, Iain, Jason and I attended the UCLA / Wyoming basketball game courtesy Maggie's brother which was fun although it was a complete blowout.

The next day I flew to Toronto. Getting to the airport was pretty straightforward. I took the 25 cent dash to Union Station and then a direct bus there for $4. in T.O. That is about a $16 cost. So, LA wins that public transit battle. Flights were delayed due to weather in Toronto but I managed to get on earlier flight so I didn't lose any time. What was amazing was the flight time. There was a huge tailwind that got us to Toronto in 4 hours! Then the fun stopped. We waited on the tarmac for 30 minutes and for 40 waiting for baggage.

Christmas was great as usual. Lot's of good stuff. Spent the morning at mum's and the dinner at Colleen and Richard's. For the second year in a row picked last at Evil Santa giving me the prize gift again. The food was great and the desserts completely excessive.

Brian has sent gifts for the family that were well received although technical difficulties prevented him from speaking to us.

On to the New Year.

Made it to LA

So, I've made it to Los Angeles. I arrived on Tuesday afternoon with a bag of clothes and my laptop. Erin, of course, had 2 checked bags and 2 carry on bags. Erin's dad picked us up at the airport and we headed to the apartment. We moved a bunch of Erin's possession into the apartment including a gigantic heavy chest. Also, moved in our spiffy new 32" LCD that will eventually be our 2nd TV. We are still waiting for my furniture to arrive. It looks like it will be next Monday, making it 18 days since it was loaded on the truck.

After we moved the stuff in we went to the Grand Central Market for lunch and I had a delicious burrito. This will be my Lenny's of LA. We had our cable and internet hooked up after lunch and then headed out to Irvine for the night.

On Wednesday we went furniture shopping which was productive but we didn't buy anything. We are having trouble finding one we both like that is in stock and faces the right way. I also went into the RF office to work in the afternoon.

We took a walking tour of LA light installations on Thursday night which was kind of boring because the pace was so slow but we did see a few nice views that we hadn't seen before. Earlier in the day we spent a lot more time in furniture stores.

Yesterday I had to give a presentation for work. After that grilling, we checked out some more furniture stores. For dinner, we went to Pete's Tavern which was ok. It's a nice place. We've also opened up discussions on a car. So much to do.

We are just about set to head out for some more furniture shopping and maybe look at a car or two. Hopefully, we'll be able to find a couch today.
